When pain looks like us, Only then we understand it….
I used to listen to people talk about their stories.
-Pain, heartbreak, stress, loneliness, betrayal, disappointment…
I believed their pain…
I would nod….
I thought “I understood”….
I said usual comforting words like “It’s Okay. I understand”…
Because it felt like the right thing to say…
And I honestly sympathised, guide them and moved on…
Because somewhere inside,
I believed I was different, I was Untouchable…
That I would escape somehow the same pain…
But life has it’s own way of teaching lessons…
One day, without notice, I found myself facing the same kind of pain when others described…
The same hurt…
The same emptiness…
The same confusion…
The same silence felt heavier than noise…
It felt like your heart being pierced and crushed with blunt knives at the same time…
Some lessons:
You can read a 100 books,
listen to a 100 stories,
get a 100 pieces of advice…
but some lessons are taught,
When you walk through the same fire….
when life brought you someone who treats you the same way once you treated others…
Then you realise…
The friend who cried wasn’t weak,
wasn’t too emotional…
wasn’t exaggerating…
They were not silent….We just didn’t hear what their hearts were carrying…
Pain when experienced by us, only then we understand it….
It makes us humble… we judge less and listen more…
